Dear All !
I have been asked to confirm that the Digital Side Wheel complies with the WFTF rules. (read technical description and functions below…)
Personally, I believe it does, by incorporpating gadgets on the approved accessory list into one unit.
Any comments please ?
Regards,

The Digital Side Wheel replicates the current 'manual' side wheel and other devices that are commonly attached to a FT rifle.
The main DSW functions being.
a) Range indication
b) Elevation angle
c) Cant
d) Temperature.
e) Shot timer
The DSW is set up using the same procedure as a 'manual' side wheel. i.e the scope is focused on a target at a known range and the wheel position entered into the device memory.
this is repeated at various range, usually a minimum of 8 known ranges between 8 and 55 yards.
An advantage of the DSW is that it accurately displays the ranges in-between those that were calibrated.
Typically the DSW will have a resolution of 0.1 yards, but is only accurate to the level that the shooter sets up the device. It is dependant on the skill and repeatability of the shooter in the same way a manual wheel is set up.
Elevation is indicated and a function allows the shooter to enter compensation values (range or clicks) depending on the range and elevation to target - in 1 degree steps
A basic cosine compensation function is available, but for ultimate accuracy it is intended that the shooter will fine tune the elevation compensation to suit their particular FT rig.
Cant, this is a simple bubble graphic with a multi colour LED that indicates cant - the switching points between green / orange and red are programmable. The green area can be set as sensitive as +-1 degree.
Temperature is displayed on a sub menu. The scope can be temperature compensated in the same was as currently done manually. It is normal to see temperature scales attached to the objective bell and a table used to offset clicks depending on the temperature difference between the calibration temp and the temperature at the time of shot.
The DSW will have the ability for the shooter to calibrate the wheel ranges at a hot and cold temperature. the DSW will calculate the click / range offset based on the values the shooter has set up. The advantage of DSW is that it will calculate the in-between temperature compensation, base on the settings entered by the shooter, not just 2 or 3 offsets.
Shot timer is self explanatory.
The DSW also has the following secondary functions, that can be useful for post shoot analysis and training.
DSW records all shot data such as range, elevation, cant, temperature, rifle movement at the time of shot release, compass angle, etc.
The DSW is Bluetooth enabled so that settings can be backed up to phone / tablet or PC.
The Bluetooth also allows the shot information to be displayed on phone or tablet in real time. This is especially useful during the practice of standing shots. the DSW displays a basic SCATT type function or "shake factor"
Ultimately, the shot data can be tagged with a GPS co-ordinate so that post shoot data will be able to be displayed on a map (Google), showing range and elevation of every shot over the course. The shooter will be able to see the shot data associated with a particular shot, such as a standing shot rifle movement and displaying the relative wind direction.
The shooter will be able to build up a database of which type of shots are missed more often, and therefore gives the opportunity to practice those shots or investigate why these are missed more often than expected.
It is important to note that the DSW is not a range finder, and is only as accurate as how the shooter sets it up and their range finding technique.
What it does allow is the accurate calculation of various compensations (range, elevation temp etc) without the cumulative error of manual estimation.
And, the improvement of technique by being able to analyse shot data after the shoot has been completed.
